Kitchen hood suppression testing, twice a year, on schedule.
Restaurants, school cafeterias, hotels, and senior living kitchens. We test the suppression system, verify fusible links and gas shutoff, and document it — before your health or fire inspection, not after.
What semi-annual testing covers
- Fusible link replacement links replaced on interval, because they degrade in grease and heat.
- Nozzle inspection and coverage verified against the appliance line-up as it exists today, not as it was installed.
- Cylinder pressure and seals checked, with cylinders serviced or replaced as required.
- Gas and electric shutoff verification confirmed to actually shut down on activation.
- Manual pull station test the one thing a staff member will reach for in an emergency.
- Fire alarm interface verified activation reported to the panel and to the central station.
- Tagging and documentation so your health and fire inspections have current records.
Three things we do differently.
We check the appliance line-up every visit.
Kitchens change. A fryer moves, a griddle is added, a range is swapped for a different footprint — and the nozzles that covered the old layout no longer cover the new one. This is the most common real deficiency we find, and it is invisible until something catches fire.
We verify the shutoff, not just the cylinder.
A suppression system that discharges while the gas keeps flowing has solved nothing. Testing the actual gas and electric shutoff is the part that gets skipped when someone is moving quickly.
We schedule around service.
Restaurant kitchens cannot lose a dinner service to an inspection. We work mornings, between services, and on closure days, and we say so up front rather than showing up at 5pm.
What you receive after the visit.
Kitchens get inspected by more than one authority. The documentation has to satisfy all of them.
System tagged
Dated tag showing the service performed and the next due date.
Digital report
Formatted for your fire and health inspections.
Coverage findings
Any mismatch between nozzle coverage and the current appliance line-up, with a correction quote.
Next interval scheduled
Six months out, before you have a chance to forget.
The hood system is only part of the kitchen requirement.
Commercial kitchens also require Class K extinguishers on their own inspection interval. Because we handle both, the visits are usually combined — one appointment, one report, and one set of dates to track.
Questions we get asked about this.
How often does the hood system need testing?
Every six months under NFPA 96 and NFPA 17A. That interval passes faster than most kitchen managers expect, which is why we schedule the next visit before we leave.
Does the kitchen have to close?
No, but the cooking line needs to be cold and accessible for the duration. We work mornings, between services, or on closure days depending on your schedule.
What if we changed our equipment?
Tell us, and we will assess whether the existing nozzle coverage still protects the line-up. If it does not, the system needs modification — and it is far better to find that during a scheduled test than during a fire.
Equipment changes are the single most common cause of a system that tests fine but would not actually work.
Do you do hood cleaning as well?
Suppression system testing and hood cleaning are separate scopes. Grease accumulation affects the suppression system's performance, so we will note it when we see it and tell you when cleaning is due.
What does the fire inspector look for?
A current tag, documentation of the last test, correct nozzle coverage for the appliances present, and verification that gas and electric shut off on activation. Class K extinguishers in the kitchen are usually checked at the same time.
Book an inspection
Tell us what is in the building and when it was last inspected. We establish the baseline, perform the work, and take over the calendar from there.
-
We call within one business day
To find a time that works around your operations, not ours.
-
A technician walks the property with you
Bring whatever documentation you have, or none at all. We document what is installed, what is missing, and what is coming due.
-
You receive a written plan and price
One plan for the whole property, phased across budget years if that is what the building needs.
-
Nothing else happens unless you say so
We do not chase. If the timing is wrong, tell us when to check back.
